With Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), iSmile Dental Helps Your Body Heal Itself

What is PRF?

Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF) is a platelet-rich concentrate prepared from a patient’s own blood at our office prior to oral surgery, and is used to accelerate the healing of hard and soft tissues (bone and gums) immediately after a surgical procedure. Because PRF is made from your own blood, you cannot have any allergic reactions from it, and it will jumpstart healing after oral surgery.

How does it work? First, a small amount of blood is drawn, just like giving a sample at your physician’s office. The blood is then centrifuged using a tabletop centrifuge until it separates into 3 layers, the middle of which is the PRF clot - which can be removed using sterile tweezer-like instruments, and applied to the surgical site. The clot can be used by itself, mixed into bone grafts, or as a cover to protect the surgical site. PRF causes soft tissue (gums) to close faster, and has Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) which help generate new jaw bone quickly.

PRF can be incorporated into a wide range of oral surgery procedures, such as: tooth extractions, implants, bone grafts, and sinus lifts. Using PRF speeds up how quickly the surgical site heals by stimulating tissues and accelerating their normal processes.
