Get to Know Dr. Karen Selman

Inspired by her sister and driven to work with her hands, Dr. Selman decided to become a dentist so she could combine her passions for art and science. She enjoys caring for her patients and creating a calming and relaxing environment for those who may be anxious or discouraged. Not only can she improve their experience by easing their fears and relieving their pain, but she can also help them smile more confidently, a factor that she admits is incredibly fulfilling.
Where Did You Study Dentistry?

After completing her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in chemistry, she obtained a post-baccalaureate biomedical science certificate. She then earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the Texas A&M School of Dentistry.
Since completing dental school, she has practiced as a general dentist and continued to achieve real-world experience in endodontics, restorative dentistry, pediatric care, prosthodontics, and comprehensive treatment planning for all ages.
Many of her continuing education courses include Root Camp E-Track Level I (24 hours of lecture and hands-on endodontic training), a 6-hour course in sutures and flap design, an 8-hour hands-on Surgical Extraction Techniques course, and a 2-hour lecture on modern atraumatic and surgical extraction principles. She has also completed Diode Laser Training covering clinical applications across multiple wavelengths.
Dr. Selman’s achievements do not stop there, as she also holds a Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Administration Certification. She has also completed courses in practice protection and risk management.
Her professional memberships include the American Dental Association and the Texas Dental Association.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Selman and her husband have one daughter. Growing up as one of 6 girls in her family, sisterhood and motherhood are incredibly important to her. In her free time, you’ll find her with her daughter at the park, library, or on nature walks. They also enjoy doing arts and crafts together. Dr. Selman is an avid learner and is always finding ways to be creative. You might also find her reading theology-based books.
