Get to Know Dr. William Lopez

Serving others is what Dr. Lopez enjoys most about his role as a dentist. Always looking for ways to help people, he accomplishes this as a Captain in the U.S. Navy and continues to deliver beautiful results to those who come to him for oral healthcare.

Where Did You Study Dentistry?

Before pursuing dentistry, Dr. Lopez earned an MSPH in Environmental Health and Industrial Hygiene Sciences from the Graduate School of Public Health in Puerto Rico. He also obtained an MPA in Health Care Administration from Troy State University. Dr. Lopez then entered the U.S. Navy and was commissioned as a preventive medicine officer. As a captain, he served as the director of the U.S. Navy’s Public Health Department at the Naval Hospital in Pensacola, FL. There, he managed all public health programs for 9 clinics in 5 states.

After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 2005, he completed a General Practice Residency at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, MD. During his time there, he triaged all medical evacuations arriving from the frontlines. These required further evaluation and treatment by the oral surgery department. In 2006, he was transferred to Bahrain as the acting dental clinic department head, providing direct routine and emergency care to deployed U.S. Navy personnel.

Once his tour was complete, Dr. Lopez returned to Jacksonville, FL, as a staff dentist before accepting a position with the U.S. Public Health Service in 2010. He completed his Dental Public Health Residency at UT Health Science Center – San Antonio.

In addition to participating in advanced training courses each year through Spear Education, he also maintains the following National Board Certifications:

  • Certified Public Health Healthcare Professional (CPH)
  • Certified Correctional Health Professional (CCHP)
  • Board Eligible for the American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD)
  • American Dental Public Health Association (ADPHA)
  • Registered Sanitarian and Industrial Hygiene

Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?

Dr. Lopez remains a Captain in the U.S. Navy, but enjoys relaxing in the great outdoors and spending time in nature.
